New Sex Rules at Tufts University
When the dorm room's a rockin...
At Tufts University, college is still a time for experimenting... just not when your roommate is around. According to a new mandate from the school's student affairs office, sex is now prohibited in dorm rooms when (unparticipating) roommates are present.
After receiving reports from numerous angry student's claiming their roommates were entertaining guests and climaxing at all hours of the evening, Tufts University decided to enact a policy that prevents sexually-engaged students from depriving their roommates of their privacy.
"There were incidents that occurred last year, and in the past, where residents of rooms started to feel uncomfortable with what their roommates were doing in the room," said Carrie Ales-Rich, Assistant Director for Community and Judicial Affairs at the university.
A few years ago, the enforcement of a similar policy spawned the term "sexiled." This is a phenomena well-known to dorm room veterans, and is applied to those who are silently forced to leave their homes while their roommate is getting nooky.
But with this new law, will students have to sacrifice their sex lives just so roomy can play Warcraft in peace? Ales-Rich says no, this is not an attempt to decrease sexual activity on campus.
"But when it becomes uncomfortable for the roommate," she said, "we want to have something in place that empowers the residents to have a good conversation with the roommate."
