Nicole, Reese, And Milk Invade Thanksgiving Theaters
Go down under, back in time, or home for the holidays.
Bang the gong. Roll out the red carpet. Fire up the spotlight. The holiday movie season is here. The studios are pulling out the big guns this turkey weekend.
Gettin' Down and Dirty Down Under
Baz Luhrmann goes large-scale--sweeping vistas, storybook romance, period costumes--in the epic Australia. Nicole Kidman's an uptight aristocrat, Hugh Jackman's a rough and tumble cowboy, the country's in chaos around them, and, well, you can probably guess where it goes from there.
Too Much of a Good Thing
Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn play a young married couple, peeved at their familial misfortune. Both children of divorced parents, they're forced to celebrate Four Christmases. Painful, but perhaps not as painful as working together on set. Rumor has it these two were not each other's biggest fans. Let's hope they have better on screen chemistry.
It Does a Body Good
The biopic Milk, about the first openly gay elected official, Harvey Milk, seems particularly relevant in the wake of California's recent vote to ban gay marriage. Sean Penn takes on the role of Milk, James Franco his lover (Scott Smith), and Josh Brolin his assassin (Dan White). This all-star cast is already garnering high praise for their performances.
