Our Golden Globes Wishlist: Best Drama
It's time to get out your "Globes."
That dreaded season is here already. No, not the holidays (we know that started in October), but the annual movie awards beast lurches into motion next Thursday when the nominations for the Golden Globes will be announced. The anticipation must just be killing you...
Given that most of the movies likely to be nominated for Best Drama aren’t even out yet, we’d like to throw our support behind three movies we have seen that really deserve a nod - even if they aren’t the most conventional choices:
Slumdog Millionaire is a timeless underdog that that took us on a life spanning crushing poverty, shocking violence, and - ultimately - joyful redemption. Plus those end credits really capture what’s great about Bollywood!
The Dark Knight was a new breed of superhero movie. Aside from the fearless and frightening performance by Heath Ledger, Christopher Nolan managed to weave the most darkly complex tale of what it means to be a hero. The statue-handing-out posse doesn’t typically reward blockbuster flicks where dudes wear tights and capes, but they should make an exception for this one.
Wall-E may be animated, and it may be Disney by way of Pixar, but it’s one helluva commentary on our culture too. You feel Wall-E’s total isolation, and watch it turn to love when he meets EVA. Damn you Pixar! We just got over Finding Nemo!
What do you think?
What do you hope gets nominated for a Best Drama Golden Globe?
