Indie film darling Parker Posey has been diagnosed with Lyme disease, forcing her to withdraw from a leading role in the upcoming Playwrights Horizons' production of This. Posey, 40, has pulled off some great roles in her lengthy career, appearing in films such as Laws of Attraction and Best in Show.

She has also appeared on Boston Legal. Lyme disease is a chronic condition carried by ticks in grass. In the US it is most common in the north-eastern states. Early-stage Lyme disease responds well to treatment, which usually requires a course of antibiotics. The off-Broadway This, which tells the tales of a poet and her love trials, will open as scheduled on December 12, said artistic director Tim Sanford.

My prayers are with Posey Parker. I hope she finds a good LLMD rather than one of the narrow minded doctors called infectious disease doctors. I had two tell me I had lyme and that shuffled me out of the office. I had one tell me that my blood work was fine and you didnt see the tick - soooo you dont have the disease. Thank God my inner sense told me this was wrong and I plunged on knowing something was definitely not right - You dont loose 13 pounds in 7 weeks because your fine- Maybe this will bring the topic where it needs to be on the front of every newspaper so people are least aware and warned about the dangers of ticks. I know if I had known I would have been more wary of picking blackberries on the shore of the Chesapeake Bay unprotected. Bless you Parker Posey.
