Starred in Airplane! and was the host of A&E's Biography series.

Peter Graves, star of classic tv shows like Mission: Impossible and the comedy flick Airplane!, has died at his home in Los Angeles. He was 83.

Graves died of an apparent heart attack just outside his home after returning from breakfast with his family on Sunday morning. His daughter administered CPR, but was not able to revive him.

As one of the most iconic actors on television, Graves starred in over 70 films and television shows. He was most widely known for his role as Jim Phelps, the leader of a special forces team on the hit show Mission: Impossible during the early '70s.

Graves also starred in the popular screwball comedies Airplane! and Airplane II: The Sequel, which have been big influences on later generations of comedy filmmakers.

In 1989 he became the host of A&E's Biography series, for which he won his only Emmy.
