Recession Hits Cave Dwellers Hard
The latest in a long list of financial tragedies...
A married couple hailing from Festus, Missouri (just outside of St. Louis), has announced they can no longer afford their sprawling cave mansion and is putting the hillside home up for auction on popular Internet site, eBay. Come again?
Wayne Curtis Sleeper and his wife Deborah built their cavey home after buying the land in 2004 for a mere $160,000, but after five years they are struggling under the crushing weight of their mortgage and cannot keep their 17,000-foot dream home. They originally made a 50% down payment for the cave, borrowing only $60,000 for their mortgage, but the balloon payment at the end of the loan term has proved too much for Sleeper and his wife to manage.
The starting bid on the cave home is only $300,000, so if you act now you can own this luxurious hole in the side of a hill. My favorite part of their eBay page is where they state that there is a stage inside the cave where Ted Nugent, Bob Seger, Ike and Tina Turner, and the MC5 have performed. One would hope not all at the same time.
