Ricky Gervais to Replace Steve Carell on 'The Office'?
The new Michael Scott?
When we first heard Steve Carell was leaving The Office, we never imagined anyone would be replacing him. After all, it's been proven Michael Scott isn't exactly needed in the office. But now it sounds like producers want to bring in someone to replace Steve Carell. And it could be Ricky Gervais!

We all know Ricky Gervais as the original Michael Scott. He played David Brent on the original British Office and the character of Michael Scott was based off of Brent. So, it's almost quite fitting that Ricky could be coming in to the American Office to take over for Steve. Would you be happy with that?
This is just one of the idea producers are throwing around. They're not sharing what their other ideas are, but Ricky Gervais acting as a replacement is a possibility, though it would definitely pose some challenges to the plot of the show.
A producer tells New York Magazine, "We talked about it today for a while. It's not the leading idea... [but] it's not a dead idea... I don't know how David Brent could take Michael Scott's place because it would be a little bit too much of a coincidence that a documentary crew was also following him. He was also fired for incompetence [in the UK Office], so we'd have to create some back story for what happened... On the flip side, you have someone who's incredibly talented and who has played with a level of realism that's the same as our show."

We love Ricky Gervais and suppose that if Steve Carell isn't sticking around, Ricky would be the best replacement. But for now, the 7th season of The Office is set to premiere on September 23. With Steve Carell!
