Rihanna's New Song: Russian Roulette
The not-so-hidden message
Is Rihanna playing "Russian Roulette" with her new song? It's already getting some criticism, but we actually really like it! And the message of the song is pretty powerful, especially coming from Rihanna.
Rihanna's "Russian Roulette" is the first single off her upcoming album, Rated R, and she wrote and produced it with Neyo. The song is clearly about Rihanna's relationship with Chris Brown, at least in some sense.
Some of the key lyrics in the song say, "You can see my heart beating, you can see it through my chest/I'm terrified, but I'm not leaving/Know that I must pass this test/So just pull the trigger."
And, of course, at the end of the song there's a gunshot. We're left unsure about whether Rihanna has killed herself or Chris Brown. Um, in a metaphorical sense, of course.
Rated R is due for release on November 23. We're counting on Rihanna's album to sell really well, but she's also up with some tough competition on that date, including Adam Lambert, Lady Gaga, and Britney Spears.
What do you think of Rihanna's first single? We have to say we're loving it and can't wait to hear more from her album!
