Putting the pain to a good cause

If your life is too easy and happy, it can sometimes be tough for the creativity to flow. And when you're going through painful times, making art is often easier. This is something Rihanna definitely knows a thing or two about.

We'd say Rihanna definitely has plenty to write about after everything she's gone through this year. And it's natural that she uses her experiences in her art. She says that her new album, Rated R, was inspired by "personal experiences mixed with rock and hip-hop."

From the few songs we've heard off Rihanna's new album, they definitely sound a lot darker than the songs from her past. And that makes sense since her life has been a bit darker. Rihanna says, "I'm usually a very guarded person, so having to go in and reach your emotions and personal things to say, it was very vulnerable."

Rihanna also says that it's her responsibility to speak out for other women going through similar things: "I'm really a woman, a human being... I go through real situations that women all over the world go through every day. It's great to have the opportunity to be a voice for those women." And it looks like Rihanna is already speaking out for other women, starting with her music.

We're excited to hear the rest of Rihanna's Rated R album to hear how her other songs relate to her personal experiences. The album comes out on November 23, so we don't have to wait too much longer!
