Robert Redford will direct a movie about a woman who was executed as an accessory in the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. The Conspirator will tell the story of Mary Surratt, who owned a boarding house and was hanged after she was convicted of helping John Wilkes Booth to assassinate then president Lincoln.

The Conspirator marks another politically-themed project for the veteran Hollywood actor. He made Lions For Lambs, described as a war-on-terror drama, in which he also co-starred with Tom Cruise and Meryl Streep. The Conspirator could begin production later this year, said Redford's spokesman. Director Steven Spielberg also has the film biography Lincoln in development. Spielberg has just won financing for a mini studio that is set to make six movies per year.
