Robin Wright Finally Divorced from Sean Penn

We thought the Robin Wright-Sean Penn drama would never end!

We never like to see a couple split, but this is a Hollywood case of "maybe it's for the best." After two decades together and constant divorce threats, Robin Wright and Sean Penn are finally no longer married. We have the details.

Robin Wright and Sean Penn began dating in 1989, shortly after Penn's divorce from Madonna. In 1991 they welcomed a daughter and in 1993, a son came along. Wright and Penn finally married in 1996, after Wright's highly-acclaimed performance in 1994's "Forrest Gump."

During a break from Robin Wright in the late 1990s, Sean Penn dated singer Jewel and directed her "You Were Meant for Me" video. It's well known that throughout the 2000s, Robin Wright-Penn (she took his last name after their wedding) and Sean Penn suffered serious marital problems. It's been speculated that Sean Penn has a firey temper and has carried on affairs, and in 2007 either Sean or Robin filed for divorce.

They called off the divorce that year, but in April 2009, one of them filed for divorce again -- then halted the proceedings, then re-filed in May 2009. In August 2009 Robin Wright filed for divorce for the last time, citing irreconcirable differences. At the time of filing Wright just given an interview to a women's magazine stating that no matter how much she loved her husband, it had become clear that their marriage had completely destroyed her inner peace.

The divorce between Robin Wright and Sean Penn was finalized July 27. Their 19-year-old daughter is in college, and the couple has agreed to split custody of their 16-year-old son.

Sean Penn has recently been linked with the much-younger model Jessica White (rumors have also suggested that Madonna contacted him recently).
