Rosa Blasi Reveals Her NFL Marriage Disaster: Part 2 Exclusive
What every woman can learn from Rosa Blasi's nightmar-iage.
Thought you knew Rosa Blasi from "Sex and the City," "Make It or Break It" and "Strong Medicine"? Get to really know her here.
In Blasi's new book, "Jock Itch: The Misadventures of a Retired Jersey Chaser" the single mom with a four-year-old daughter reveals her longtime former penchant for boys with balls (that is, athletes) and the story of her marriage to a famous NFL player that ended in Craigslist hookers and pills. Believe it or not, there's something we can all learn from Rosa Blasi's new book (yes Elin Nordegren, even you).
In Part 1 of this interview that went live yesterday, you learned how the beautiful Rosa Blasi, now a single mom living in L.A., went from sneaking into the Playboy Mansion on the reg to marrying the man of her dreams. Only problem was, "Tim Fish" (whose real name is totally discernable with a couple quick clicks) had some vices that turned his wife's life into a story that's worse -- but better -- than fiction. Here Rosa Blasi dishes on why she told her truth in "Jock Itch," as well as the amazing thing that came out of her incredible marriage.
LimeLife: Rosa, there's a real commitment to truth in this story, there's actually a lot of integrity in these accounts. Amazingly, you're not exploiting anything. This is your experience.
Rosa Blasi: It is. And, look: the first page of the color insert section [ed. note: Rosa's pictured in a yearbook photo with a giant '80s perm and braces] --
LimeLife: Yes, I saw it!
Rosa Blasi: It's literally a photo I've hidden from every man I've ever dated. Including my ex-husband. The braces, the bangs: that was my skeleton in the closet. This book is a journey through low self-esteem and questionable decisions as a result. Even my publisher was like, "Are you sure you want to put in that story about the urination on the doorstep?" And I said, "Yes!" Any woman's going to get it. There are a lot of stories in there that are mortifying...but truth and comedy were important to me. I use a lot of "allegedly" or "this is just what I heard." But if the stories were true, I said it. Even the black bars over the eyes [ed. note: Rosa's referring to images such as her ex-husband at the Playboy Mansion and the inappropriately flirty wife of one very famous pro football player], I just did it because it was funny.
LimeLife: Bring us up to speed on your relationship with your ex-husband. You changed his name in the book, right?
Rosa Blasi: Yep, the first page: "Some of the names have been changed to protect the guilty f---ks." [Laughs.]
LimeLife: Yep, saw that. I think a lot of our female readers will relate to struggles with an ex. So where are things between the two of you now?
Rosa Blasi: Honestly things are contentious, because they always have been. He's never apologized, he's never admitted fault. You'll read in the book, he got angry with me -- like I did it! My therapist said, "He can do two things: he can blame you, or he can look in the mirror." So behind my back, he's said things like, "Oh, her biological clock was ticking, she pushed me into marriage."
LimeLife: No!
Rosa Blasi: Yeah. He proposed to me 10 months after we met and we got married 14 months after that, and then we went through very sensitive fertility stuff, which is in the book. Anyway, long story longer: he's an angry person who's in belligerant denial about his issues. I protect what I think of him from our k-i-d because I think that's really important, and I will continue to protect that until she's the right age -- 18, 19. If she says, "I love Daddy," I say, "I love Daddy too."
LimeLife: And you mean that?
Rosa Blasi: Sometimes my friends will hear me and their eyes widen, but you know what, it's not just a cute soundbyte: it really was meant to be. As a result, I'm better off, I'm happier, I have this amazing daughter I feel so grateful for. There was a time when I thought maybe I could never have a baby. She's a great ending to the tale.
