Russell Crowe Becomes Voice of Premier Car Race
Russell Crowe has joined the big wheels of Australian motorsport, with the superstar actor today confirmed as the voice of the Bathurst 1000 TV advertising campaign. The race, to be run at the Bathurst track in New South Wales in October, is the premier event on the Australian car racing calendar, drawing more than 30,000 people.
Crowe is understood to have held talks with the executive chairman of V8 Supercars, Tony Cochrane, as filming wrapped in the UK on Crowe's latest flick, the Ridley Scott-directed Robin Hood. Similar gigs could follow, including December's Telstra 500 V8 race at Sydney Olympic Park, which has drawn controversy for funding and environmental reasons. The New Zealand-born Crowe is a big fan of sport. He is co-owner of the South Sydney Rabbitohs rugby league team, which recently brought him grief by dropping out of finals contention, having lost three of its last four games.
