Ryan O'Neal Discusses Farrah Fawcett Oscar Snub
Ryan makes things clear.
Was Ryan O'Neal's interview too much after an in memoriam clip for his late partner, Farrah Fawcett, was excluded from the Oscars? Ryan let everything out when he spoke to Radar Online about the now much-publicized public snub on Sunday night.
"It was a terrible decision and very hurtful," O'Neal told Radar Online, after seeing that Patrick Swayze, Brittany Murphy, and Michael Jackson clips were included in the Oscar presentation.
"Farrah was a member of the Academy for over 40 years and we could not believe she did not get a mention."
Ryan O'Neal says that both he and his daughter, Tatum, were shocked that Farrah Fawcett was not included in the in memoriam clip.
"Both Tatum and I were very upset and we intend to write a letter to the Academy to try and get an explanation for this oversight on their behalf," Ryan explained.
Reps from the Oscars claimed that they had trouble including all of the stars of note into the special programming, but Ryan disagrees with the claims.
"They gave mentions to sound guys and other writers and without being disrespectful, Farrah Fawcett was an icon and a household name," Ryan said. "Quite frankly, we were stunned at the decision not to include her in the tribute and I feel that the Academy should be scolded for that, everyone was shocked," he added.
Ryan's official statement was more subdued, but it's clear that there's plenty of confusion about why Farrah Fawcett was not included in the clip collection. In fact, Jane Fonda, Roger Ebert, and Craig Nevius all expressed their opinions about the omission on Twitter. It's a shame that someone so iconic would have her memory muddled up in unneeded drama.
