Salons in Iraq Re-Open
Religious Extremists Kicked Them Out
BellaSugar just pointed out the coolest article about hair salons in Iraq, and after reading it and feeling all cheery, we thought we'd give them a shout-out. According to an article in the Miami Herald, extremists had pushed hair salon owners out of Iraq, believing that women shouldn't change their appearance or be seen by men other than their husbands. However, the salons are now back in business!
Now two prominent Iraqi salon owners, one in Ramadi and another in Baghdad, have returned to their posts and are striking up business. Ahmed Morad is one beauty salon owner whose shop was closed, but now stylists are taking in about $400 per customer in hair and beauty treatments.
Even though most Iraqi women still cover their hair outside of the company of family, they're loving the change. Skin Specialist Niran Ali said that "The wives want to change just to be like what their husbands see [on TV]," but we hope that they're doing it more for their pleasure than anything else.
