Sandra Bullock Signs on for First Role Since Scandal

We reported in the spring that both Natalie Portman and Angelina Jolie had been tapped to star as the lead in "Gravity," a big-budget film about a space mission gone wrong, as a male and female astronaut try desperately to get back to their loves and lives on Earth. IMDb describes the storyline with this: "The lone survivor of a space mission to repair the Hubble telescope desperately tries to return to Earth and reunite with her daughter."

Turns out neither Jolie nor Portman could take the part; and we'd heard buzz that Sandra Bullock was considering it. Indeed word has it Bullock has signed on to play the leading lady in "Gravity," which will reportedly begin filming in England in May 2011 for a 2012 Hollywood release.
Sandra Bullock's co-star will be none other than George Clooney, despite earlier reports that Robert Downey Jr. had signed on. Turns out Downey had scheduling conflicts...no doubt Warner Bros. was pleased with his replacement.
