Scottish Terrier Sadie Wins Westminster Dog Show
"This is the complete dog."
The results are in and the queen has been crowned. Roundtown Mercedes of Maryscot, better known as Sadie the Scottish terrier, was awarded Best in Show at the 134th annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.
Sadie turned in the best performance out of more than 2500 dogs from over 150 breeds, essentially completing the triple crown of dog shows. She had already won the other two major competitions, the Purina Nationals and the Eukanuba Championship.
During the final round, the competition was interrupted when protesters, who are opposed to the methods and culture of pure-breeders, entered the ring with posters that read "Mutts rule" and "Breeders Kill, Shelter Dogs Rule."
Still, Sadie and her pitch-black coat manages to swipe the crown from other crowd favorites, like the runners-up, a sleek, red Doberman pinscher and a French Bulldog, to become champion.
"She's the total package," praised judge Elliot Weiss. "This is the complete dog ... That's what you want a Scottie to look like."
But if you missed the competition, don't be disheartened -- Sadie will soon begin a press tour of all the most popular talk shows.
