Steve Jobs Talks with Obama, Despite Health Worries
Steve Jobs bounces back for Obama panel.
President Obama's West Coast trip to explore technology innovations was met by appearances from the biggest names in tech. Steve Jobs was among the power players at Thursday's Obama talk and dinner, despite Jobs' recent medical leave and increasing concern over his health problems.
Apple CEO Steve Jobs announced in early 2011 that he was taking his third medical leave from Apple in seven years. Jobs is a survivor of pancreatic cancer, an aggressive cancer for which recovery is often unanticipated.
So immediately Steve Jobs' recent leave was met with questions about the return of his cancer, and while nothing has been confirmed, word has it he continues to work on Apple projects from his home. But Jobs made the trip to meet President Obama in a secluded, no-press-allowed area of Woodside, California Thursday to discuss what the White House is referring to as advances in "American innovation, new research and development, education and energy."

Present at the talk were other high-profile tech figures such as Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, Google Inc Chief Executive Eric Schmidt, and Oracle CEO Larry Ellison. White House Press Secretary Jay Carney explained after the talk that President Obama desires to remain in touch with this group, including Steve Jobs, "so we can work as partners to promote growth and create good jobs in the United States." Obama's two-day West Coast visit was aimed at promoting technological innovation to help boost the struggling U.S. economy and reduce stubbornly high unemployment -- considered crucial to his 2012 re-election chances.
