Super Bowl Recipe: Best Easy Chili With Beer
Chili is always a Super Bowl winner
A Super Bowl party isn't a Super Bowl party without chili. It's definitely a crowd-pleaser and easy to serve. Plus, you can cook up a big batch of it ahead of time, keep it warm on the stove, and keep serving all night long. And this chili involves beer!
Two necessities for Super Bowl? Chili. and beer. Why not combine the two in a super easy, 30-minute make-ahead chili recipe. Make it the morning or afternoon before the Super Bowl and serve with all the toppings when your guests arrive. Or better yet, they can serve themselves and add on whatever toppings they want!
I love making chili with turkey because it's just a tad bit healthier than beef, but still has all the flavor. This recipe from Foodnetwork is one of my favorites and perfect for Super Bowl.
30-Minute Chili with Beer:
* 3 T extra-virgin olive oil
* 1 medium yellow onion, chopped
* 5 cloves garlic, chopped
* 1 T kosher salt
* 2 t chili powder
* 1 t dried oregano
* 1 T tomato paste
* 1 chipotle chile en adobo, coarsely chopped, with 1 tablespoon sauce
* 1 lb. ground turkey
* 1 (12-ounce) Mexican lager-style beer
* 1 (14 1/2-ounce) can whole peeled tomatoes, with their juice
* 1 (15 1/2-ounce) can kidney beans, rinsed and drained
* Sliced scallions, cilantro sprigs, avocado, sour cream, grated Monterey jack cheese, and/or tortilla chips, for garnish, optional
What to do:
* Heat the olive oil in a large, heavy skillet over medium-high heat.
* Add the onion, garlic, salt, chili powder, and oregano and cook, stirring, until fragrant, about 3 minutes.
* Stir in the tomato paste and the chipotle chile and sauce; cook 1 minute more.
* Add the turkey, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, and cook until the meat loses its raw color, about 3 minutes.
* Add the beer and simmer until reduced by about half, about 8 minutes.
* Add the tomatoes--crushing them through your fingers into the skillet--along with their juices and the beans; bring to a boil.
* Cook, uncovered, stirring occasionally, until thick, about 10 minutes.
Now, add all the fun toppings. You can even set up a little chili bar with bowls filled with all the various toppings.
Oh, and serve with more beer, of course!
