Teen Sex Doesn't Always Hurt Grades
Just don't let your son or daughter sleep around.
Sex and study don't mix -- especially if you're a teenager. But throw in a little love and commitment, and you got yourself a whole new ballgame. According to a new study, teenagers in committed relationships do just as well in school as students who don't have sex at all.

Kids in high school want to have sex. There's no way around that, as most are just little pervs coming to grips with their skyrocketing hormones. And this drive for sex can really bust up their academic performance... and their lives.
In findings presented to the American Sociological Association last week, researchers found that teenagers who engage in random hook-ups are more likely to get lower grades, have more health problems, get expelled and not aspire to attend college.
However, kids who engage in sexual activity in committed, stable relationships do not face negative impacts on their grades. Researchers say this is because teens in these relationships have access to emotional support that can help them succeed.

So what does this mean for our ideas about teen sex? For one, it raises doubts about "abstinence-only" programs that fail to acknowledge any benefits of a teen's sexual activity.
But the key is to make sure these kids know not to use their willies willy-nilly. It may be hard for them to resist her now, but ditching those SATs just to get a chance with Sally Baumgartner will come back to bite them later.
