Dig right in!

Yum, yum, yum.

Who doesn't love bacon? And sausage? Put them together and you've got heaven (and a heart attack) on a plate. At least that's the thinking behind the creation of The Bacon Explosion, a four pound torpedo of meaty goodness.

Jason Day and Aaron Chronister came up with the idea in response to a challenge from a fellow bacon lover - What can you do with bacon? Well, here's what: weave strips of bacon into a mat, add a layer of sausage, cover with a crunchy layer of cooked bacon, and roll it up tight. Slather with barbeque sauce and voila! 5,000 calories of greasy goodness.

The men posted their invention on their website (BBQAddicts.com) two days before Christmas. By Christmas Day they had received 27,000 visitors. Paula Deen's got nothing on them.

Well, it looks like the pork craze has officially taken off, and guess what? With the Superbowl on Sunday, I'm thinking it's time for another meat attack. Bring on The Bacon Explosion.

To be followed, of course, with a donut sandwich.

We had two bags of pork rhines, seventy-five Jimmy Dean biscuits, five sheets of deli-cut ham, a saltshaker half-full of bacon grease, and a whole galaxy of multi-colored sausages, bacon bits, bacon balls, bacon dogs... Also, a quart pigs blood, a case of chocolate covered bacon strips, a pint of raw bacon butter, and two dozen pork chops. Not that we needed all that for the trip, but once you get into locked a serious pork collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can.
