The Simpsons Picked Up for Two More Seasons
Insert Bart catchphase here...
Though some say that The Simpsons has long since jumped that proverbial shark, crossing into a parody of itself, Fox just announced that they don't care. That's right, the yellow-skinned, blue-haired, catchphrase spewing crew will be back for two more seasons of fun. So?
Well, this makes the animated show the longest-running series in the history of primetime TV. It beats out the previous champ, Gunsmoke, which held the record at 20 seasons on TV (The Simpsons is currently at 20), and edges out competitor Law & Order, which has 19 seasons on the tele.
The new order of shows also will push the cartoon's episode count to 493, so you should be a little less harsh about the tendency to recycle plotlines, people. Besides, what other show on TV is as consistently funny for so many years? The only other animated option we have on Fox is the heinous Family Guy. Ugh.
