Tiger Woods Gets New Endorsement Deal
Woods' Career in Worse Pain Than Ever?
Tiger Woods announced Tuesday that he has no clue when he'll return to the green, but fortunately the former golf god has found another course of career action. AT&T and Gatorade may not want his post-scandal endorsements, but the Japanese version of Ben-Gay has signed Woods as their new face. As if hisimage wasn't icy-hot enough...
Thought Elin Nordegren was the only one who dumped Tiger Woods following his 2009 sex scandal? Remember, Woods kissed many longtime endorsement deals goodbye after the multi-mistress saga broke -- Pepsi Co./Gatorade, AT&T, Accenture and and even Golf Digest all 86'd him in the months following the ordeal. Woods' lawyers fought hard to keep the golfer's contracts with companies like Nike and Upper Deck, but thanks to the corrosion of his international reputation, no company has approached Woods for brand representation in ages.

However, Woods has just signed a contract to serve as an "image character" for Japan's Kowa Co. He'll lend his face to Kowa's cream that's said to provide consumers with anti-inflammatory and painkilling relief for muscles. The formal name for the hot rub cream that Woods will hock is Antiphlogistic Analgetic Vantelin Kowa...we just hope he remembers it's for external use only.
No word on how much Woods will make from the Kowa deal, as it's reported his agent won't respond to press e-mails. Exactly why could the Japan product work in Woods' favor? First, it's a widely held belief that the Japanese culture is incredibly considerate and forgiving in how they view individuals and their faults...and second, with knee and ankle (and, let's face it, image) injuries that have messed up Woods' game indefinitely, a guy's gotta find some fans to rub the right way...right? Talk about Tiger balm.
