Tom Cruise Appears On Oprah, Sans Couch
Tom Cruise will make first Oprah appearance in five years.
Our memories of Tom Cruise on The Oprah Winfrey Show in 2005 are not flattering ones, and his couch-jumping appearance over then-new-girlfriend Katie Holmes saw the beginning of the demise of his reputation at large. Cruise makes another Oprah appearance Friday afternoon, and insiders are calling his new demeanor "subdued." Ha!
Tom Cruise's May 23, 2005 showing on Oprah proved the power Oprah wields over public influence. The talk TV queen herself appeared caught incredibly off-guard by Tom Cruise's strange behavior as he talks about Katie Holmes, and Oprah has rarely spoken of it since...meanwhile we members of the public have tried to forget. Psycho!
But news broke late in the week that Tom Cruise was set to make a new appearance on Oprah's Friday live broadcast. Cruise touched down in Chicago and headed straight to Oprah's studio, and here's what Radar reports about his presence on-set: Tom Cruise's "live appearance on Oprah's show Friday morning was decidedly more subdued. He casually walked onto the set, looking very laid back and controlled, and when asked about his wife he simply said, 'Things are going good... I love my wife.' There was no jumping up-and-down, no falling to his knees." Radar cheekily adds this: "It was probably no coincidence that there was no couch on the set. Just 2 chairs."
It's also reported that Oprah's conversation with Tom Cruise on Friday focuses mostly on his family life and that Cruise tries to paint an image of himself as a "family man." When Oprah asked Cruise what a typical Saturday night is like for his wife and kids, Cruise responded, "We play scrabble and watch movies. We spend all week deciding what movies we're gonna watch." Then Oprah asked, "How would you rate yourself as a parent?" Cruise answered, "A+."
