In the last stage of their trend seeking voyage, the Kmart design team arrives in New York at the SoHo design center. The world-famous fashion capital offers many trend-inspiring ideas and it is up to the team to make out which ones are the most feasible and which ones will make the cut.

Theresa, the Chief Design Officer, is always writing things down, seeing how current events will reflect in fashion. Meanwhile, Rick, the Trend Director, offers his ageless advice. For him, to begin a trend watch, the team must begin with “very high level concepts” which will later determine apparel and home trends.

Rick also reveals that in the past, home and apparel trends “were fairly far apart” but are now closer than ever. Therefore, looking at apparel trends can help the team identify trends for home décor, as the trends influence each other.

Once in SoHo, the Kmart Home and Apparel teams meet. Their brainstorming session will plant seeds for spring fashions 2010. Kmart design trends for home décor and clothes are being determined behind closed doors as the Chicago and NY teams exchange notes on the intersection of home and apparel trends and the challenge behind delivering affordable, quality design.
