Try This Catnip Substitute for Kitty
Valerian Root Might Do the Trick
Does your cat shun all those cute catnip sachets and mini mouses? Slip him some valerian root and see if he doesn't perk up--and buy some for yourself to relieve anxiety and nervousness as well.
While other people's cats seem to have a ball with catnip in any form, some of us are stuck with cats (both young and old) who simply don't have interest in this special kitty herb. To get your cat rowdy, try some valerian root stuffing and add it to your cat's favorite mouse or ball. It's definitely worth a try, especially if you can get over its natural odor of socks/mold/sweat/must. The scent is subtle, but definitely there, so don't give it too deep of a whiff when you buy it!
If you're not familiar with valerian root, you might also want to give it a whirl for yourself. You can use it as a natural sleep remedy or relaxant aide in capsule form-- just ask your doctor first before you try new herbs.
