Movies making money.

Twilight: New Moon has the box office on lockdown. The lusty, teenage-vampire romp opened to hype not seen since Edward Cullen's human days, and it made good on its promise: the film raked in over $140 million, giving it the third-highest opening in box office history.

Did you really think it would bomb? The Twilight craze has been rocking the boat ever since the first film came out last year, and now the sequel has more than doubled the first one's opening, placing it third all-time behind The Dark Knight and Spider-Man 3.

The film also grossed $118 million overseas, giving it a worldwide total of $258 million. Considering it only cost $50 million to make, it set the record for the least-expensive film to ever open at over $200 million.

In third place at the box office was the disaster flick 2012, with $26.5 million. Starring John Cusack and Amanda Peet, this one's for people who like explosions and giant tidal waves. The new animated film Planet 51 was fourth, limping to $12.6 million in its first weekend.
