Vogue Thinks Adele Is Too Fat
And they get Annie Leibowitz to do something about it...
This one was brought to my attention by our girl-crush fave, Jezebel, who has highlighted the gross exploit of singer-songwriter, Adele, in the pages of the ever classy Vogue magazine.
I can't say I'm surprised that the magazine most famous for posing waifish models in dead-eyed poses has sunken to new Photoshop lows with this spread, but... I am actually surprised.
After a several paragraph focus on how clothing has to be modified for uber-talented Adele's "voluptuous" frame for the Grammys, the article gets down to the business of describing how the singer rose to fame. But Hamish Bowles always gravitates back to the matter of her size, whether through describing what Adele eats to celebrate her award winnings, or quoting Adele's own minor insecurities: "I don't like my arms—my upper arms," she explains. "It's the only feature I don't like about myself. I used to wear minidresses with jeans, but I get my legs out now."
.
After beating the Jonas Brothers and Duffy for the Best New Artist Grammy, and taking the coveted Best Female Pop Vocal Performance one as well, is it really necessary to not only fixate on her size, but then depict it in such an utterly unrecognizable way? The photo above is from Vogue, and the one to your right is what Adele actually looks like. Not since the Pshop fiasco of totally tiny Jessica Alba has something gotten under our skin quite so much.
Time to cancel the office subscription to Vogue.
