WATCH! Sarah Palin's 'Real American Heroes' On Fox News
Is Palin's patriotic presentation "absurd"?
Sarah Palin took the stage as host of Fox News' Real American Heroes special on Thursday night. We have footage of Palin's tributes to everyday Americans working to make our country better...was Palin stupid or awesome?
Fox News was really brilliant in their scheduling of Real American Heroes, considering Thursday, April 1 was the first night many of us were off to our favorite outdoor restaurants for the first al fresco dinner of the year. (Good move, guys.) Anyway, Sarah Palin mastered the stage in her grating Alaskan accent, reminding viewers of the good people of America who make sacrifices to make our "great country," as Palin calls it, even greater.
Palin shouted-out to George Weiss, a business mogul who pays for young children to go to private schools when they wouldn't be able to afford private education otherwise. (Always turning it to politics, Palin said, "There's such power in this idea of the voluntary private-sector contribution that George and others now are making.") She also mentioned Cole Massie, a little boy with cerebral palsy whose service dog inspired him to walk, as well as Jason Dunham, a Marine who served in Iraq and gave his life for his comrades.
Critics (okay, me) suggest that Palin's teleprompter performance was too slow, making it obvious that she was reading and difficult to stay with her dragging-on phrasing. Other critics (New York Magazine) are calling Palin's performance "absurdly patriotic." Watch the video -- what do you think?
Also, big controversy happened over Palin and Real American Heroes earlier this week when the show tried to air an old LL Cool J interview as part of the show's promotion. LL Cool J took action, and the footage of him was removed. Country singer Toby Keith was also surprised to learn that his song was being used for the show...what the heck are these producers thinking? They'll have a lawsuit in their laps if they don't figure out what to do with this Real American Heroes thing soon.
