Was The Bachelor Switcheroo Planned?

Hmm. This is a tough one.

I changed my mind.

Jason Mesnick, ABC's bachelor who famously ditched his fiancee in favor of a previous castoff, did not plan the breakup in order to boost ratings. That's his story and he's sticking to it.

Regardless of whether he meant to boost ratings or not, he certainly did. The show was the highest rated show in its time slot with over 15 million viewers.

Since the jilting, Mesnick has been the subject of intense hatred. Even Elisabeth Hasselbeck is weighing in. She overwhelmingly supported Rycroft (his original pick), a 25-year-old sales rep from Dallas, who'd fallen in love with Mesnick and planned to be step mother to his 3-year-old son, Ty, from a previous marriage.

Oh, the drama of reality TV. Tell me, why are people acting all hurt and shocked? If you agreed to have your love life taped, stop complaining when you're publicly dumped.

It's not like either relationship was gonna last.
