Hepburn Was "Absolutely Enchanting" Onscreen

Roman Holiday wasn't Audrey Hepburn's first Hollywood gig, but it was her most successful. After starring as Princess Ann in the 1953 hit flick, Hepburn won an Academy Award for Best Actress, along with a BAFTA and Golden Globe. Now, in clip of Hepburn's Roman Holiday screen test, you can see why she was originally cast in the role alongside Gregory Peck.

“She had everything I was looking for: charm, innocence and talent. She also was very funny. She was absolutely enchanting, and we said, ‘That’s the girl!’” director William Wyler said after watching Hepburn on camera as she auditioned for the part of Princess Ann, which was originally written for Elizabeth Taylor.

As part of her test, Hepburn performed several scenes from the script, however, Paramount wanted to get to know the British actress on a more personal level. As a result, in an onscreen interview, Hepburn told filmmaker Thorold Dickinson about her childhood during World War II.
