Fox is launching focus groups to find out departed American Idol judge Paula Abdul's audience value, according to an exclusive report by radaronline. Abdul announced her shock departure from the show after being unable to reach a salary deal with television executives.

She was said to be seeking $20 million for the show's ninth season. Executives have since scrambled to find a string of stars, including Katy Perry, Shania Twain, Joe Jonas and Victoria Beckham, to take up guest spots. A television source said: "Fox loves focus groups. If Paula consistently scores far higher than any other person in her chair, they will feel compelled to make her an offer she can’t refuse and make this deal happen." Another well-placed source said: "There will be four judges at American Idol come January. And that fourth judge will be Paula Abdul."
