Whitney Houston was forced to apologize to fans after she lost her voice during a much-anticipated comeback gig. The singer, who has allegedly battled drink and drug problems, in recent years cut her set to just three songs after her voice began to crack.

Whitney, 46, whose new album I Look To You hit stores earlier this week, said sorry to the 5,000-strong crowd that had waited to see her in New York's Central Park on Tuesday afternoon. The show was taped and was shown on US television show Good Morning America on Wednesday morning. The star blamed a heavy slate of interviews, including one with Oprah, for her loss of voice. "I'm so sorry. I did Oprah,' Houston said. "I've been talking for so long... I talked so much, my voice... I shouldn't be talking. I should be singing." Some fans said they were let down by the performance. "I expected (the concert) to be longer. She couldn't sing. She was really damaged," said Joao Andrade, 28. "I'm a little disappointed. I think she was brave to come out with no voice." Houston made headlines in recent years for her alleged drug use and divorce from Bobby Brown. Last month, Houston gave a select audience a preview of the new album. The singer performed for daughter Bobbi Kristina, her mother, cousin Dionne Warwick, and Alicia Keys and Diane Sawyer.
