Woman Buys a Cat-Filled Couch
And you thought that missing button was bad...
Remember the last time you bought something off of Craigslist? You were so psyched to find that dresser for only $10, got it all the way home, only to realize there was a dead racoon in the drawer? Damn. Well, a lady in Spokane, Washington, has you beat for the worst cheap-skate purchase. Or the best, depending on your affinity for free cats.
Last week, Vickie Mendenhall (who coincidentally works for an animal rescue group called SpokAnimal) bought a used couch for $27 from her local Value Village. All seemed normal with the couch save for some occasional meowing, but on Tuesday night, Mendenhall realized the occasional meowing she heard wasn't just the byproduct of living in Spokane (where literally nothing happens, ever), and that there was a very hungry calico cat living in her new/old sofa.
She called the Value Village, who denied knowing anything about the couchcat, and then took the cat - who she named "VeeVee" - into the shelter she works for while it recovered from being sat on for a week.
It's a happy ending for VeeVee, though, because her owner showed up soon after to claim the sofa-prone feline. It turns out that the owner, Bob Killion of Spokane, donated the couch in mid-February, and his 9-year-old cat, Callie, went missing around the same time.
We love a happy ending to the world's most insane story.
