Wyclef Jean has a bit of business he should take care of before leaving the States. The hip hop producer announced last week he will be running for president of Haiti, and now it's been revealed he owes over $5 million in taxes to the IRS.

According to reports by The Smoking Gun and CBS News, Jean, 37, has had several tax liens filed against him, all amounting to $5,278,430.10 in unpaid taxes to the United States Government.
The Internal Revenue Service filed multiple liens against the former Fugees singer/rapper and his wife, Marie Claudinette, from 2006-2008 on taxes that were failed to be payed for properties in New York, New Jersey and Florida.
The Smoking Gun reports that the liens were filed against Jean under the address of the star's $1.85 million home in Saddle River, New Jersey.

Of course, Jean (whose given name is Nel Wyclef Jean) ran into a bit of money controversy in the near past. The singer's charitable foundation set up to help victims of the Haiti earthquake was found to have suspicious handling of its donations, including a huge check Jean cashed from the foundation to pay himself for rent and appearing at a benefit concert.
Still, no matter what Jean owes in taxes, it's good to see him getting a few dubious dealings under his belt before he heads into politics. Consider it practice.
