Zac Efron: Action Role Would Be 'Kiss Of Death'

Zac Efron doesn't need a stunt double just yet...

Zac Efron's making international waves as a crushing ingenue in the period-drama Me and Orson Welles (in theaters this week), and he is not about to switch gears just yet. He likes the mature roles, he's stepped forward to say, and he feels taking a different route could be career suicide.

A reporter recently asked Efron if he'd ever consider starring as an action hero. Zac said the topic is not off the table, but it's not a priority right now:

"I would love to try an action film at some point, but not too soon. I think that can be a kiss of death. There's got to be a real role that I can bring something unique and specific to, a way for me to do it believably. Until then, I think it would just come across as weird."

And if there's one thing we know about Zac Efron, it's that he's definitely not weird. He won't, however, finish college right away, as he wants to keep pursuing the acting thing while it's working for him. What does he have in his sights? Get ready, gang -- Broadway! Efron says, "I've always wanted to do Broadway. Finding that right role is a challenge. I wouldn't want to just do it to do it. I would want to make sure it's something special."
